Are these construction calculators really free?
Yes. Every calculator on this page is free to use, with no sign-up or email required. We build these tools to help contractors and homeowners get quick estimates before committing to a project.
How accurate are the cost estimates?
Our calculators use publicly available 2026 data from HomeAdvisor, Angi, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, NRCA, and Remodeling Magazine's Cost vs. Value Report. Each calculator shows its data sources and 'last verified' date. Estimates are for budgeting only — always get 2-3 quotes from licensed contractors for actual pricing.
Can homeowners use these tools, or are they only for contractors?
Both. Contractors use them to speed up bids and material takeoffs; homeowners use them to research project costs before talking to contractors. If you're a homeowner, our /cost-guides/ section (coming soon) has plain-English explanations of what each project typically costs.
How often are material prices updated?
We re-verify prices quarterly (every January, April, July, October). Each calculator displays its 'Last verified' date so you know exactly when the data was checked. If a calculator shows a date older than 6 months, we'll flag it for review.
Do these calculators work on mobile?
Yes. All inputs use a minimum 44px touch target and 16px font size to prevent iOS auto-zoom. The layouts are responsive down to 375px width (iPhone SE). No app install required.
Why do you recommend specific estimating software on each calculator?
When a contractor finishes a calculation, the next step is usually turning that number into a professional bid. We recommend software we've tested (see our full reviews at /reviews/) and may earn a commission if you sign up through our links. This doesn't affect the calculator's accuracy — the math is the same either way.
